Hi Tom, how are you today? Can you tell me a little about yourself?
I’m doing fine, I have been a maker since my memory starts. I was fortunate enough to have an art teacher very young who understood potential and energy and how to guide students to access their potential. Woodworking in earnest started for me with my dad restoring old boats. I have enjoyed several careers so far but have always relied on the side of creating.
What got you into woodworking? How long have you been building?
Dad and my art teacher, and the apparent need for someone who could visualize, communicate and fabricate well. I think I had my first major commission around 1972 and started doing art and craft shows.
Do you use Roarockit products in the making of your work? How did you find out about us?
I love and use veneers and the vacuum system from Roarockit. Research, research, research.
What inspires you to create your pieces?
My latest creations... Roarockit veneers! Music, the beach, my partner in life and art my wife Keven, the sheer challenge, terror and endorphins of the process.
What are your thoughts on working with our coloured veneers? Are there any tips you can give to aspiring builders out there?
I’m like a little kid when the UPS truck shows up with my order, I especially love the unexpected expression of the wood when worked, it always surprises and delights me.
Tip of the day; be fearless as you breathe personality and love into whatever you put your hand to.
If people wanted to find out more about your work, where can they see your creations and contact you?
windyislanddesigns.com and for now the farmers market in Avon, North Carolina better known as Cape Hatteras.
Thanks again for your time Tom, any last words for the readers back home?
Make Art. Cheers!
